Hanich studied privately from 1946 onwards, in 1949 entering Fernand Léger's school; he worked as Léger's assistant in 1950-1954. He began exhibiting in 1949, showing his work in many group exhibitions including the Salon Comparaisons, the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles, the Salon de Mai and the Salon d'Automne in Paris.
