Harley, George (1829–1896), physician and physiological chemist, was born on 12 February 1829 at Harley House, Haddington, East Lothian, the only son of George Barclay Harley (1766–1832), a landowner, and his wife, Margaret, née Macbeath (1788/9–1845).
