A statement of the desirable composition and amount (weight, volume) of food and drink for persons of specified age, sex, occupation, etc. Such a statement of dietary guidelines may be vague and generalized or detailed and precise, the latter being more common, for instance, in recommended dietary allowances (RDAs) for persons with metabolic disorders such as diabetes mellitus, celiac disease, etc. Many developed nations publish and periodically revise sets of dietary guidelines.
