Australian statistician specializing in non-parametric statistics. In 1974 Hall graduated in mathematical statistics from U Sydney, and in 1976 he obtained both an MSc from ANU and a PhD (supervised by Kingman) from U Oxford. After two years at U Melbourne, he returned to ANU where he is now Professor of Statistics. He was elected a Fellow of the AAS in 1987, and FRS in 2001. He was awarded the Pitman Medal of the SSAI in 1990, and the Hannan Medal of the AAS in 1994. He was President of the Bernoulli Society in 2001 and the IMS Wald Lecturer in 2006.
