Quick Reference

In the outer framing story of the Mahābhārata, King Janamejaya is the great grandson of Arjuna and Subhadrā; he is therefore a direct descendant of the Pāṇḍavas, and the son of Parikṣit, whose death by snakebite he avenges in a great snake sacrifice. The first recitation of the Mahābhārata itself is made to him by Vaiśaṃpāyana.
