Quick Reference

A curve on a graph in which yields on deposits or securities are plotted against different maturities, when short-term interest rates are higher than longer rates. The curve starts at a high value and falls downwards. A downward sloping yield curve is now regarded as abnormal and may be a sign that investors anticipate an economic downturn. See yield curve.
