Russian-US dancer, teacher, and ballet director. She studied with T. Wassilieff, Preobrajenska, Egorova, and Vilzak and began her career dancing with Ballet de la Jeunesse in 1938. She danced with the Original Ballet Russe (1940–1), Ballet Theatre (1941–3), and Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo (1943–5). After working in American television and on Broadway, she became head of the ballet department at the New York High School of Performing Arts (1954–67). She was founder and artistic director of the Houston Ballet (1968–75).
