A term sometimes used (in ICD-10 and elsewhere) to refer to disorders in which language acquisition is disturbed from the early stages of development, the deficit not being attributable to neurological or sensory impairment, mental retardation, or environmental deprivation. See expressive language disorder, reading disorder, receptive language disorder, specific disorder of arithmetic skills, specific spelling disorder.
