In the article by Vanhems et al. entitled “Acute human immunodeficiency virus type 1 disease as a mononucleosis-like illness: is the diagnosis too restrictive?” (1997;24:965–70), there is an error on page 967. The sentence beginning at the bottom of the first column should read “For the 11 patients infected by a mutant strain or by wild-type and mutant strains, the mean duration of acute HIV-1 disease was 21.0 days, compared with 26.9 days for the 88 patients infected with only a wild-type strain (P = .48).”
