In the 15 August 2007 issue of the journal, in the article by Gottlieb et al. (Gottlieb GS, Nickle DC, Jensen MA, et al. HIV type 1 superinfection with a dual-tropic virus and rapid progression to AIDS: a case report. Clin Infect Dis 2007;45(4):501–509), the single HIV-1 sequence attributed to Accession Number EF580059 (HIV-1 isolate 21v22pc1057 from USA envelope glycoprotein (env) gene, partial cds.GenBank: EF580059.1) is in error. The error is due to laboratory contamination from another subject's sample that had been worked on at the same time as that of the subject reported in this article. In the legend to Figure 2, this sequence is referred to as a “recombinant,” and its envelope V3 loop amino acid sequence is shown in row 19 of Table 2. The authors regret this error.
