Few studies deal with the role of imperial cults in human maturation. Evidence for imperial hymnodes from Pergamon and elsewhere, for imperial mysteries, and for individual votive offerings shows that imperial cults often played a part in rituals for mourning, socialization, agricultural cycles, family, gender, and other issues in the cultivation of personhood.
