Joseph Revealed: Vision‐Led Recovery of Relationship and Land (45:1–47:11)

Show Summary Details

Joseph's self‐revelation leads to a great embrace of reconciliation with his brothers (Genesis 45), and when Jacob is carried to Egypt, he too embraces Joseph and is reconciled (Genesis 46). However, there is a variation in the focus of reconciliation: the brothers are reconciled to one another (45:14); Jacob is reconciled to death (46:30). One is horizontal, the other vertical. In both cases, reconciliation is associated with land (45:10,18–20; 47:4–6,11). “Ch. 45 ... must be seen as closely coordinated with ch. 46” (Terence Fretheim).
