Spanish Jewry was adept at adapting over the centuries to the changes in rule, from Visigoth to Muslim and finally to the Catholic reconquest. Nevertheless, the riots of 1391 and the forced conversions would alter the fate of the Jewish community as well as of Spain itself in ways that never could have been imagined. The creation of the converso group not only devastated the Jews but affected the course of Spanish history.
