An analysis of the use of loan‐words in the Old Latin Gospels, both as a translation feature and as an index of their status in late Latin general. Particular attention is given to the semantic fields in which lexical borrowing is most likely; to the motivation for these loans; and to the degree of assimilation to native Latin phonology and morphology.
