 The System of Manorial Production

‘The system of manorial production’ for the first time, demonstrates how Anglo‐Norman society operated as an economic system. This involves setting up a model of manorial production and testing it by estimating a range of sophisticated production functions. These production functions are more appropriate to simple medieval economies than to complex modern economies. The econometric results provide a basis for a new interpretation of the Anglo‐Norman economy, which contradicts the conventional wisdom in significant respects (particularly, regarding the rationality of the entire system).
