This chapter discusses the expansion of firms via acquisitions and mergers. It is shown that a greater rate of expansion is made possible by merger. So long as a merger is a feasible and profitable method of expansion, it can be safely assumed that firms that have grown by merger will be larger than they otherwise would have been.
