This chapter examines the impact of trade with less developed countries (LDCs) on long-term unemployment, wage dispersion, and the skill content of employment in northern Europe. The results did not identify any long-term problems with unemployment from LDC import penetration. Trade has at most a second-order effect on European labour markets, and this effect is dominated by technological factors.
