This chapter examines economic organization in the context of the emerging knowledge economy. It argues that what matters to economic organization is the growing importance of inalienable assets. It is possible to give efficiency explanations of authority under distributed-knowledge conditions. It is also shown that certain knowledge conditions are difficult to relate to organizational outcomes.
