East Asia’s success can be attributed to a market friendly policy or getting the basics right. The development of agriculture, social risk management, technology openness, and the accumulation of physical and human capital gave East Asian economies the economic basics or fundamentals, while interventionist policies and export promotion encouraged rapid growth. Most East Asian countries had authoritarian regimes which were effective in leading economic development.
