In De Motu Animalium 8, Aristotle presents a picture of animal motivation in which a capacity he calls phantasia is given the role of ‘suitably preparing’ desire. The chapter offers some preliminary remarks on how Aristotle conceives of phantasia and its role in the production of animal movement.
