This chapter describes the changes in the British Broadcasting Corporation's (BBC) programming during the reconstruction period. In March 1945 BBC Director-General William Haley announced that the company would provide listeners in Great Britain with two full-scale alternative programmes and that the regional services which had been interrupted for security reasons would also return. This chapter also discusses the proposal for the BBC to maintain its sole rights within Britain to originate programmes for distribution by wire or wireless.
