This chapter discusses the association between migraine and depression. The association between migraine and depression cannot be attributed to increased treatment-seeking among subjects with both conditions, because the association between the two conditions was found in community samples as well. Indeed, the association was stronger in unselected community samples than in studies that derived from treatment settings. Moreover, the association between migraine and depression remains after appropriate controls have been made for factors, such as sex or age, that may be expected to confound the relationship.
