This chapter presents a case study of asthma epidemics in Barcelona. It describes the analysis of twelve outbreaks identified by physicians between 1981 and 1986. In some circumstances, the investigation of health event clusters could be of local, general, and scientific interest. Several factors should be considered when deciding whether or not to carry out an epidemiological investigation, including possible biological mechanisms and available knowledge on the nature of the health event. For clusters of asthma, intensive multidisciplinary investigations are recommended.
