This chapter first reviews current data on the in vitro findings of the effect of a range of vasoactive substances on human large coronary arteries. Particular attention is given to spontaneous or phasic contractions, the role of nitric oxide in the relaxation to a range of agents, and importantly the question of synergy of two constrictor agents. Data is presented on the electrophysiology and contractility of human isolated right atrial coronary resistance vessels in response to acetylcholine, noradrenaline, and 5-hydroxytryptamine.
