A large number of the population do not visit the dentist unless they are in pain, and many of these consult a pharmacist first. However, dentists often criticize pharmacists for giving mixed messages about oral health because they stock confectionary, fizzy drinks, sugar-containing baby foods and drinks, and do not always recommend sugar-free medicines. This chapter focuses on the role of pharmacists in promoting oral health.
