This chapter examines the causes of obesity among women from a life course perspective. It emphasizes factors that affect a woman's vulnerability to obesity, particularly those from childhood since it is suspected that obesity risk starts early in life. Although only a brief outline is provided on the consequences of obesity, here too several life stages are involved.
