This chapter details the events that happened when Robert E. Lee replaced Gustavus W. Smith as commander of the Confederate forces. Lee renamed his army the Army of North Virginia. He also re-organized his army, taking any measures he deemed necessary. The Alabamians were once again struck by diseases when stationed near the Chikahominy River.
