After the failure of the first tour to England, members of the African Choir regrouped and undertook a second tour of England, Canada, and the United States. This chapter chronicles this epic journey and how it lead to the foundation of the A.M.E. Church in South Africa. African-American spirituals played a key role in these black diasporic contacts and were at the center of an emerging black counter-public.
