With a few recent exceptions, church organs are looked upon not as historic artifacts that must be protected, but as instruments of the liturgy that must adapt to current needs or be replaced. This chapter deals with the prospect of a new organ for a new millennium. Some of the changes made to church organs turned out quite successful. The addition of a general crescendo pedal and digital combination system to the Marcussen organ in Oscar's Church has greatly expanded the repertory that can be played on it without destroying its ability to function as a Werkprinzip instrument for the performance of baroque music.
