Non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHL) are expected to account for 4.2% of cancer diagnoses and 3.3% of cancer deaths in the United States in 2006. With approximately 58,870 cases diagnosed and 18,840 deaths from NHL expected in 2006, this group of malignancies constitutes a serious public health problem in the United States as it does in most developed countries. This chapter reviews the epidemiology of NHL. Topics covered include classification, molecular characteristics, demographic patterns, and host factors.
