This chapter summarizes the conclusions and recommendations from the Task Force on interventions in the social environment to improve community health. To improve children's readiness for school and reduce retention in grade and placement in special education, the Task Force recommends comprehensive, center-based, early childhood development programs for low-income children. To improve family safety, tenant-based rental assistance programs are recommended.
