This chapter discusses the early history of Buddhism in the West. Perhaps the most remarkable thing about the early history of Buddhism in the West is how little of it there is. A few Greek philosophers were apparently influenced by Buddhist thought, but until the tide of European colonialism reached the shores of Asia, that huge continent's most popular and influential religion was largely unknown in the West.
