The disruption of Carl's relationship with his mother gives us a point of comparison between his experiences and the experiences of Jamie Barrie, whose relationship with his mother was transformed by her grief over the loss of her favorite son. It may be that these parallel experiences are not incidental to the creation of levitation fantasies. This chapter explores this possibility.
