A Paradigm Shift in Developmental Perspectives?

Show Summary Details

The idea that the development and socialization of children is a singular function of early life experience in the psychosocial interior of the family has been undergoing many challenges and revisions over the past three decades. This chapter describes the conventional views of child rearing, both professional and cultural, and presents some challenges to those ideas. Gathering themes from those challenges, it suggests a beginning of a different framework for understanding development and for working with families and children.
