Extreme stress strains and depletes all human beings. Stress and trauma interventions aims to maintain, repair, or restore well-being of people by supporting their resilience and offering additional supports and resources when personal resources are depleted. This chapter focuses on interventions designed for incidents of extreme stress, in particular, early interventions. Specifically it addresses: preparation through education and training; peer support, referral and follow-up; psychological first aid; consultation and liaison; crisis intervention; risk communication and media relations; post-traumatic stress treatments; and education and support sessions.
