The mystery of consciousness is both insightful and exciting. In this chapter, a brief introduction of the topic will be discussed. Given its ambiguity, the first part of this chapter focuses on understanding the concept of consciousness, mainly on phenomenal consciousness, as well as its role and place in nature. The remaining part, on the other hand, provides a general framework on the discussions that will follow. The author compares the mystery of consciousness to a sliding tile puzzle with causation and consciousness as the last two pieces in that puzzle that need to be situated in their proper places.

Keywords: consciousness; causation; sliding tile puzzle; phenomenal consciousness; nature
