This chapter describes the impact of social injustice on the health of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender/ transsexual individuals, including the impact of violence, HIV/AIDS, mental health and substance abuse, and cardiovascular disease and cancer. It addresses the underlying factors and roots of this social injustice and what needs to be done, in terms of legislative and other policies, roles of health care facilities and organizations, educational measures, and research.
