This chapter introduces common human rights documents, the framework which will undergird this work. International human rights documents provide a preliminary way to compare social development across cultures. These include the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UNDR), the Geneva Conventions, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD), and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The monitoring of human rights and applicability of the human rights approach to social work are discussed.
