This chapter focuses on the genre of Job 28 and the persona that the author creates by means of it. The designation “speculative wisdom poem” is perhaps not terribly evocative, but it serves well enough to gesture toward the sense of generic similarity that connects Proverbs 8, Job 28, Sirach 1 and 24, Baruch 3:9–4:4, and perhaps 1 Enoch 42.

Keywords: book of Job; genre; wisdom poem
