This chapter examines the central civil services (CCS) of India. The CCS together with the all-India services comprises the higher civil service. The central services constitute a separate category and as such have formulated their own rules governing their members including the Central Classification and Appeal Rules, Conduct Rules, Fundamental Rules and departmental rules. As a rule, a central service is confined to one department or ministry. This chapter provides a list of the divisions and branches under the central services.
