This chapter discusses the development and current state of Dalit politics in Uttar Pradesh (UP). It describes the formation of the Bahujan Samaj Party around 25 years ago, which swept the polls in the UP Assembly elections and is presently ruling the state, with Mayawati, the leader of BSP, ensconced as the Chief Minister of UP.
