This chapter discusses the use of irony in another work by Chaucer, this time the Merchant's Tale. A number of excerpts and lines from the poem are taken and then subsequently analysed. Based on the examinations made in this poem, it can be determined that the irony Chaucer used in the Merchant's Tale is controlled.
