The Lauterpacht Centre (formerly Research Centre for International Law), located at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, would not be what it is today without vision and generosity. The Centre has become well-known for the research being carried on there, for its own lecture programme — quite detached from Faculty lectures on the various LLB and LLM courses — and for its seminars. The Centre continues to have its own publications, which are published in affiliation with Cambridge University Press. One publication is the International Law Reports, which pre-existed the establishment of the Centre and was edited from 1960 to 1990 by Elihu Lauterpacht, the Centre’s founder. The Hersch Lauterpacht Memorial Lecture series, which started in 1983, stand as a testament to Eli’s pride in what his father gave to international law. The list of cases in which Eli has been counsel is prodigious, whether at the International Court of Justice or elsewhere.
