This chapter presents an essay on the patristic debate concerning the logos or the pre-existence of Christ as a person. It analyses the relevant works of Eusebius and Marcellus and suggests that both their positions on the pre-existence of Christ failed to establish itself as the faith of the Church. However, they represent the two basic exegetical options in relation to the New Testament teaching about the pre-existence of Christ.
