This chapter addresses the issue of assessment of expectation damages. The assessment of such damages is based upon supposition as to the position the plaintiff would have been in had the contract been performed. It deals with the many difficulties that this supposition entails. The discussion relates inter alia to cases of the loss of a chance, situations in which the other party has a discretion as to his performance, and those in which recovery is measured by reliance loss.
