Origen is not a figure easy to view in perspective. The primary reason for this is perhaps because some of his most characteristic themes, warmly debated during his lifetime and a stone of stumbling to many in the three hundred years following his death, have remained to this day troubling. There remains many questions in the history of Christian thought. The text and exposition of the Bible stand at the very centre of his work.
