This chapter examines the ministry of the laity in the churches of Anglican Communion. The Lambeth Conference recommendations for an enhanced role of the laity in the church ministry are realized throughout the Anglican Communion in complex bodies of law on the subject. In recent years, many churches have introduced prohibitions against discrimination in the membership of church governance. However, the Anglican canon law appears to be weak in terms of defining the specific rights and duties of the laity.
