This chapter examines Karl Rahner’s understanding of both the animation and adaptability of the Church and the Holy Spirit in the Church. The spirit and the Church were inextricably linked in Rahner’s theology because he believed that the Spirit provided the source of animation needed by the Church. Rahner also asserted that the role of the Spirit in the Church was significant enough to justify the belief that the Church had a double structure. It was not only hierarchical but also charismatic.
