The previous two chapters looked at a number of different aspects of the sense of self: the point of view, the feeling of belongingness and the emotional self of the body. This chapter considers one final aspect of the sense of self: the sense of agency. The sense of agency is the ‘I’ of ‘the archetypal narrative of consciousness’ described it in Chapter 2, or what Daniel Dennett calls ‘the centre of narrative gravity’.
