This chapter introduces the main proposal of the book with respect to the assignment of sentential stress in focus-neutral sentences. It proposes a new formulation for the sentential stress rule within the multiple spell-out framework and shows how this new formulation paves the way for a straightforward account of the facts discussed in the previous chapters as well as some new data.
